Hello, our company is a mix of Linux and Windows 98 machines. We are probably going to upgrade the Windows 98 to 2000. We have had some minor inside job hacking problems. We are located in Russia, thus software is cheap cheap:-) So $ is not an issue. We pay $2.5 per CD. Flat rate. I believe we are using NT for a server, though I am not sure. I raised the question of changing servers to Linux. I am not happy about how such things as print and sharing are more difficult to set up for the Linux people. The administrator prefers Windows NT. He mentioned how Samba doesn't do identification etc. I was clueless in this area. Anyhow, I know this thread is Linux biased, but I would appreciate opinions. If you had an office of 45 people, 1/3 Linux, 2/3 Windows which OS for the server? Thanks George __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Since you're using pirated M$ software I don't know if it behaves the same as "genie" licensed one. And I bet you're using "russian" versions of M$ winblows word, excel and outlook which are full of bugs. If your "russian firm" e-mail standard is outlook with all it's "advanced" features you're better off to stay with NT. Because as far as I know there is still no Linux based MUA which can resemble these Outlook features. Star Office 5.2 MUA is getting close but not enough. I hope, may be later it will.

It is better to use Linux or BSD as a firewall or file server to protect your internal illegal windows network primary from your russian FSB (formerly KGB) and crackers. But for internal mail server in your case is better to use NT with outlook.

For firewall and file server I would recommend to use Linux with Reiser FS. For internal company wide MUA I would use NT and outlook at least for now. Thanks.
