Linux Suse 9.1. Partition Resizing ---------------------------------- Is it true that once linux partitions have been created they cannot be resized unless there is still some free space at the bottom of the last partition? The scenario: Partitions have been created for 'swap', 'root', and 'home' (for programs and data). Later it turned out that there is not enough space for 'home' but more than necessary for 'root'. Obviously, one would want to reduce the 'root' partition and increase the 'home' to accommodate more programs. There is no space left below 'home'. According to literature this is not possible. It is only possible to make 2 partitions out of one. Also it does not appear possible to reduce the WIN98 partition which occupy the first cylinders and use the space for Linux. This of course is possible before installing Linux. Magic Partition v. 8 only creates or resizes partitions 'Ext2', 'Ext3', 'swap' but not 'Reiser' If this is true I am more than surprised because even Windows allows it. Conclusion: Linux allows to resize Window partions but not its own??!! -
Not true. I have successfully resized ReiserFS, swap, VFAT, AND NTFS partitions with QTParted. In my case, I booted from the Knoppix CD. While Partition Magic if more flexible, QTPArted does work. On Sat, 31 Jul 2004 20:20:04 +0200 hwm@onetel.net.uk wrote:

No. I found the version on Knoppix to be a bit better than the later version I downloaded from the QTParted web site. I don't remember if I ran resize_reiserfs.

It is strictly an ISO image. If you have a DVD burner, then you can download 3.5.

It's in the ISO? Okay... I'll take a look on my CD-R I burned of 3.4 & see if it is there, as well. If not, I'll d/l the latest. Thanks! I was looking for 'parted' or any reasonable facsimile thereof... w/o success. :-\ <LOL> -- ...CH "The more they over-think the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." Scotty
