I just downloaded and upgraded from 1.4.4 ULB to 1.4.5ULB and I have to say, boy it's just a mess (just kidding...I thought I'd jab James a bit). WOW!!! It's been about 2 or 3 versions since my Evolution has worked right...and well...and this one took care of it. I'm sure James had nothing to do with the other versions not working right on my system, but this one is really fast. I used to have major lag time going from folder to folder, but that is all gone. Fonts look good and everything works perfectly. I click on emails and they pop right up. Thanks James! -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

I can speak for this too - this release certainly does run quit a bit faster. Maximum respect to James for the good work. For the stuff that I use that's available on his site, I don't even bother with the official sites any more! A related question: The lag time when moving from folder to folder. How related should this be to the size of the folders? I have several folders that have several thousands of mails in (like this list, for example), and I'm wondering how much that has to do with evolution's (lack of) speed. Thanks Hans

I notice the same difference in going from a folder with 1000+ emails to one with 20 emails. It's not as fast as Outlook, but a heck of a lot faster than 1.4.4 or the previous couple versions. -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

How about the summary settings? If set they don't work for the weather information and all newsfeeds. Is a proxy to be set or somethings else? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

On my system the Summary seems to be fine. I don't have a proxy or anything else set special. Do the tabs work on the Tools/Settings section? -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

guys, thanks for all the kudos, but I can take minimal (really, really minimal) credit - I just build the beast and package it. James, I've stopped trying to build Evolution - I just can't get it to work. I can't even rebuild your src.rpm. So your packages make you my hero very time a new version is released... :-) Hans
I am running Evolution 1.2.4 on SuSE8.1. The latest install program from Ximian only supports SuSE8.2, so I can't get newer versions. Is there another way of getting a newer version on my system? On Sat, 2003-10-04 at 17:10, H du Plooy wrote:

Look at garnome http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/ the current release is a little old, you may want to wait for the next one though Also, if you *really* want to live life on the edge, look at jhbuild (the URL escapes me at the moment) I've tried both, they work well usually, though sometimes they require a little patience

Oh no. Thank you Anders for pointing this out (to me). I did see the 8.1 requirement in the initial mail, sorry. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

James Ogley says (of Evolution, at least), "These packages are built for SuSE 8.2, they are not intended to work with previous versions, but your mileage may vary." But, I suspect, from his (Richard Bos's) reply to my last post on this list, that he doesn't actually read the posts he replies to. -- Vic Ayres
