FTP Installation Errors (Network Module)
Hi all, I've downloaded and burned the boot.iso to start the FTP install from CD. The disk boots me in to the menu that allows me to choose to do a new installation, and then to choose FTP. Unfortunately, if I choose any kind on network method, it tells me to load a network module. I'm currently using an Intel Pro 100+ NIC which is listed under SuSE's HCL as fully supported. The box I'm trying to install on is currently running WinXP Pro and the NIC works fine under XP. When attempting the SuSE install I can load the network module for my NIC, but have no idea what to enter for "parameters". My questions are these: 1. Should it be automatically detecting the NIC and loading the module? Is the fact that I have to do this an indicator that my NIC is not being recognized? (Though I do see it under the Kernel Messages). 2. If this is normal, What are my options for parameters? I've searched SuSE and Google for infor on this to no avail. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, Mark

I have always left parameters as blank, but then I have not tried with a Intel Pro anything. YMMV David

Long answer to both questions: Boot the PC with the boot CD or floppies. At the first menu you get, enter the following: install=ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.0 (Just start typing, the letters will apear at the bottom) Instead of using this ftp directory, any mirror will do. Short answers: 1. Yes, yes. Don't know. 2. Depends on what you did. Take the default (blank); options are for rare cases; see network modules in kernel source. Even shorter answer: do as I said and most probably you won't care anymore! ;-) Cheers, Leen
