Java 1.5 JRE/SDK assistance after install. Suse 9.2 Pro
So I un-installed Java 1.4.2 with Yast, and ended up having to remove several other apps also. After I've installed Java 5.0 (1.5) Java is no longer in my path, or at least when I try and run Java apps they fail to load. And I cannot compile any source either. I used the RPMs from sun.com, so it should work just fine, but it does not. I installed both the JRE and the SDK. How do I add it to my path? Thanks for your time, Michael

Put a line like the following in .bashrc export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0/bin and java will be available next time you start a shell. Obviously you'll need to replace /usr/java/jdk1.5.0 with wherever you've installed java. You might also look at /usr/lib/java which should be a symbolic link to some java directory. If you want to change this, do it as root and look at man ln to see how you create a symbolic link. -- JDL
