[opensuse] Reasons to prefer openSUSE/SuSE Linux Enterprise over Red Hat based distros...
Hi, we have a couple of Sun Fire 440 & 280 servers at work. We are tired of using solaris, so we are moving to Linux. Currently the admin team is trying to install CentOS, wich is a Red Hat based distro. I hate Red Hat based products because I think they are quite buggy and hard to configure. A different reality yields on SUSE, which made my life easier through YaST among several other features. My boss is asking me to make a resume of SUSE's advantages over CentOS and Red Hat. Although I'm convinced that there's no distro better than SUSE, I can't just let them play with the servers until they finally get convinced too. In other words, I can't just tell him that seeing is believing. So SUSE developers and community, why would you choose SUSE over other distros (including debian based ones like debian itself, ubuntu, knoppix etc...), specially beyond YaST?. I found it difficult to explain, I mean, when you have a nice day, you don't care about why, you just enjoy it!. We need a distro that makes administration easier and supports our architecture. We might consider buying a SUSE Linux Enterprise license from Novell if ensure us greater quality over Red Hat, and if Novell's support teams have enough experience with these kind of servers. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have put together some white papers SUSEvsXYZ from Novell website, they can be found here: http://groups.google.com/group/VGLUG/files Also Novell has really good side-by-side comparison here: http://www.novell.com/linux/compare.html Cheers -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
SUSE is a LOT easier in administration than Red Hat's offering, but then again, if you have someone in your team that is expert in Red Hat and someone else who is average on SUSE, Red Hat will win. As for professional system: they both have about the same level of performance and features. Another thing is beauty: I Love beautiful systems, and they increase my productivity, as I can work longer without get bored, which results in more work hours a week. -- -Alexey Eremenko "Technologov" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hi Everyone, I have been trying to configure wine on opensuse to run various windows applications and, I have been able to get quite a few applications running nicely. However, I am getting this error message when I run any wine applications: preloader: Warning: failed to reserve range 00000000-60000000 I tried various versions available: the default wine version that comes with opensuse (0.9.24), then 0.9.35, then finally a recompiled 0.9.35 (built from a source rpm). However, all versions seem to give me the same error message. When I try to run windows programs like winword, they seem to be stable for a while, then crash without any message. Has anyone faced this kind of problem before? I would appreciate your help on this. Thanks, Prajjwal Message Disclaimer: This electronic message may contain confidential information. This message is harmless.

And this is unrelated to the message. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Everyone,
Please, you are "Hi-Jacking Threads". You are replying to an existing message and changing the "Subject:" line rather than typing the list address into a new message. This causes problems when searching the archives for a particular subject and disrupts ongoing conversations. If you are unaware of "threading", research it on google.
