Palm Tungsten TX and SuSE 10.0?
Hi all, I'm currently trying to get a Palm Tungsten TX to sync with a SuSE 10.0 system. I have used other Palms successfully with this very machine (m5xx, Vx, Tungsten E2, Tungsten T), but the Tungsten TX is a no go so far. I have a custom udev rule on the machine, as suggested in http://www.clasohm.com/blog/one-entry?entry_id=12096 This rule works great for all Palms mentioned above - except the TX... For some odd reasons, the /dev/pilot link gets created as soon as the TX is connected (contrary to my E2, where /dev/pilot only exists while synching) and it is not released when the TX is removed. Also, the permissions used in the udev rule are ignored. So far, I have no idea why - when looking at the output of "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices", I can see no significant difference between the E2 and the TX. Is there anybody out there who succeeded in syncing one of these beasts? According to the KPilot web site, it should be possible - at least someone seemingly succeeded under Debian... Cheerio, Thomas

One thing I had heard - and I don't know if this is the case with you - is that the newer Palm Pilots need to be hooked up directly to the USB port on the computer. They can't be hooked to a USB hub for some reason. I haven't tried your udev rule - but will give it a shot in the morning - however, I've yet to have my Palm Pilot sync at all under 10.0 or 10.1. I have a Zire 72, which replaced a dead Tungsten E. The T|E synched without a problem, but I was reading that the Zire and newer Tungstens had some funky configuration that KPilot and JPilot just wouldn't read. I tried under 10.0 to manually configure the file but gave up after awhile. For my Zire 72 under 10.0 I just gave up and ran XP under VMWare to sync with Palm Desktop. I haven't loaded VMWare under 10.1 yet so my XP image is still sitting on a DVD. I'll try your udev solution and let you know. Oh, I feel your pain. I have this thread bookmarked: http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/05/13/0234225 Also, I can still remember my first Usenet post when I was even more of a newbie than now where I was trying to get a Palm III working with Star Office Contacts and Mail on Mandrake 6.0... http://groups.google.com/group/staroffice.com.support.install.linux/msg/818e... http://tinyurl.com/yn7kpk -- Kai Ponte www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request

I take back what I wrote last night. I just plugged in my Palm, fired up KPilot, and synced. It worked - just like that. I have not had this success with Mandrake 6.0, 8.0 or SuSE 9.1 - 10.0. Anohter reason for 10.1. -- Kai Ponte www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request
