Hi Can anyone tell me how to fix the settings for alsa (via alsamixer) so i don't lose them on log off and have to reset them on log on again? I need to mute "SB LIve" so I don't get any hissing from the speakers. Thanks Ian

After you have your sound settings right, open up a terminal, su to root and type: alsactl store Read man alsactl for more info. Chris Maaskant.

I think this should work but also take a look at yoour desktop environment. When you log in to KDE, for example, it will restore your previous session' settings (or your previous saved session). Therefore, any previous settings on kmixer will be restored. HTH, Jorge

Thanks Chris - that made the difference - do you have any idea why that is not part of alsamixer itself?

Because it needs to be done as root. I use GNOME and my settings get saved automagicly, this also happens with KDE. If you are running one of those two and it doesn't get saved there is a problem. Chris Maaskant.
