[SLE] Why can't the CD play music in Stereo?
Hello I wonder whether someone could help me to figure out what is happening with my CD player. If I play a audio CD using cdplay or whatever music comes out in just obe of the speakers. However if I extract the wav file from the same CD and play it using /oss/play the music comes out stereo (two speakers). What am I mssing here? Thanks a lot. I would think you are missing a wire between the CDROM and you sound card!. Check your cable, if that is OK then you've either got a problem with one of the outputs from your CD Drive or an input problem on your sound card. Chech the cable you are using is the correct one. Some cables are: Right Ground Left Ground others are: Righ Ground Ground Left David Bottrill -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

That may be a problem of the balance setting of your software cd player.

Check your cable from the CD to the soundcard. My guess is you have it plugged into the wrong jack. Check the wires, they usually come RGGL or LGRG (may be backwards). If you plug a cable that is say LGRG into a jack RGGL, one side is grounded out, thus only one speaker will play (or RGGL into RGLG). Don't just go by the end that plugs in either, check the output of the CD as well. Hope this gets you stereo. Jean-François Bocquet @Ouranos.Chaos.fr wrote:
