Re: [SLE] Dual booting Windows ME & SuSE 7.3
Hello Gerry
There can be several reasons why this happens.
But we need some mor information to help you.
What Souncard are you using? Is it an onboard chip of your ABIT?
IF yes, it's an AC'97 chip, which is supported with ALSA on Linux (my wife has
one, and it was autodetected by SuSE 7.2, but also doesn't work in Windows,
neither with or without Linux installed).
You say it stopped working after you installed Linux. Did you physicly shut
down (power off) the machine between booting in Linux and going back to windows?
If not, please try that.
Most likely the card is a PNP device, which sometimes need to be initialized
a certain way to work. But if this has been done by linux, windows can crash
when trying again.
Kind regards
Guy

Thanks for trying to help Guy, but you've either misread or misunderstood my e-mail - I'm using a Soundblaster Audigy as a soundcard (it's very new and I don't think Linux supports it yet). The Abit KT7A motherboard doesn't have onboard sound.

Yes, I've done that. The soundcard will continue to lock-up windows. I've just begun from scratch again and re-installed Windows (made an image using Norton Ghost so it took 20 mins instead of 1 hour) and I have no problems. It does seem very strange to me that installing SuSE can mess Windows up. I'm going to make another image (a partition image this time in the hope I can try re-imaging the windows partition without destroying the Linux one)

I don't know about that, but I didn't install PnP support into Windows ME - that seemed to have the same effect as installing Linux (!?!)
Kind regards
Guy
Finally got it to work! Here's what I did: 1. Installed Windows ME, drivers and software 2. Created a partition image with Norton Ghost 3. Installed SuSE 7.3 4. Now Windows ME won't work so I copied the image back 5. That's it! Both OS's working. The only small problem I have now is creating an image of my SuSE partition - Norton Ghost sticks right at the very start of the process. Is it something to do with the different file systems? SuSE 7.3 uses reiserfs by default. Gerry.
Hi guys... how do I block certain type of attachments (exe files by example or vbs type) using postfix and qpopper under Suse 7.4 ? thanks bye --ed
Yegads. 7.4?
It stuck in my throat when they released 7.3 just after I got the 7.2 version (and even before some
of the Linux Mags had got round to reviewing 7.2).
I hope that's a typo or maybe SuSE have now accelerated to a monthly release cycle ;)

Hi fellows.. does any one could put to work a Matrox G400 Dual Head on SuSE 7.3 ? I mean.. I could use one monitor... but how to I configure the second one ? or it is not possible yet ? thanks bye --ed
Hi I have SuSE 7.2, and I did upgrade both KDE and XFree-86 about one month ago to the latest version that was available at the time. Then I ran SaX2, and did the normal configuration for both screens, and it has been running since. It is a great display adapter, I like it a lot (but I don't game). Jaska. Viestissä Torstai 29. Xinerama was practically written for Matrox cards.
