I'm curious too.. I tried changing this parameter (append="ide=xx") in lilo.conf, and I did not see any changes... Perhaps some kind of optimization...

Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 16:26:01 -0300 Hi, As far as I know, celeron up to 633 runs at 66 Mhz of bus speed, newer pentiums run at 100 or 133 Mhz. I think this is the speed it refers... It is documented in ide.txt at /usr/src/kernel/Documentation..
Regards...

The 'Assuming 33mhz bus speed' listing you see during boot is a product of your FSB speed and governs your PCI slots and on any system not using pc66 memory, should BE 33mhz. The setting itself can only be changed on the MOBO or in the BIOS if at all. Adding append actually changes nothing but simply ensures that the proper value is used in the event that the default is incorrect. Charles (-: Forever never goes beyond tomorrow.

I have set "idebus=66" and the boot log reflects that it is being used to set up. HTH Terence
