[opensuse] network change, name resolving and nscd
Hi list, I noticed a really weird behavior of my laptop, running TW: I regularly switch it between work and home network, I suspend the laptop, move to home/work, wand resume there in the new network. In both cases I use the wired eth0 interface, in both networks address and routers/nameservers are assigned via dhcp. Now, especially when I get to work after having run at home for a while, I experience a delay in name resolving. If I ping a machine, even in the same network as the laptop, it takes 2-3s before the pigs start. It is not a slow nameserver - a nslookup host immediately gives me the correct answer. Still just using the hostname for commands like ping (but also ssh) results in the mentioned delay. The culprit seems nscd, because if I restart it, name resolving is immediately OK again. I tried to figure out *what* nscd is doing in theis few seconds, but didn't get anywhere. While I can of course restart nscd manually each time, I wonder if this is a bug I should report, or if I'm doing something wrong (but what?)... Has someone seen similar hangs after a network change?
