[opensuse] Look and Feel has changed :-(
Hi all, Newbie question: the look and feel of Firefox, Eclipse, Gimp and other applications has changed to a very old-skool appearance (see attached screenshot). How do I revert this back to the default ? Sorry for being so vague, really missing a starting point here... Diego

Diego - first off, what window manager are you using - KDE, IceWM...? -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Oups, sorry: Opensuse 10.3-64bit, KDE, window manager set to Compiz. Window decorators work fine, the look and feel has only changed for widgets like buttons, menu items, borders etc. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Hi all, I'm still wondering what I am looking at here - is this some Gnome library that causes these buttons and sliders to appear ? Any pointers for a newbie are welcome :-)

Diego - that screen you sent is of GIMP. It is a GTK+ application that does not adhere to any conventions for look or feel other than their own. It won't look or behave like anything else you have.

I'd honestly suggest Krita for graphics. It is at least better looking than GIMP, even if GIMP has some more functionality. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks Kai, the GIMP window was just an example. I think what I am trying to ask is: "Why does the KDE widget style set in the Desktop settings not apply to GTK+ applications ?" I really think the selected 'Plastik' widget style used to apply to GIMP, Eclipse, Firefox etc. ..but maybe I am hallucinating. Cheers

If you do a search with YaST you should find some libraries or applications to install which work with Gnome and KDE desktops. Something like Qt curve or other libraries. Search on Gnome KDE together? After that you open up the KDE control centre and go to > Appearance > GTK Styles and Fonts. You can select whichever one is the one for you. -- Richard www.sheflug.org.uk -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You're a legend, Richard, I found some updates waiting for qt3, qtcurve and kde3 (the update manager didn't tell me about it). All these together did the job. I've got my widget style back :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
