Hi I was wondering has anyone heard that suse will put an kernel rpm update to 2.4.19 at any time thanks Bob
If you are willing to live on the edge, you can try the experimental kernel at http://www.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/suse/people/mantel/next/ If you look at the change log you will see that they are making changes almost daily. In regards to my CD-RW/kernel panic problem I reported the other day, I tried this experimental 2.4.19 rpm, and it seems to be working great now with no adverse side effects so far (knock on wood) Thanks all, Justin enderak@yahoo.com

I need help with the following problem. I am trying to install the drivers for my sound card which is a turtle beach montego. I downloaded the drivers from soundforge and unpacked them (I think). I am following the directions from the SuSE support doc titled "Installation of soundcards with Aureal Vortex chip" and the readme file from the driver from soundforge. Both directions say to type the following install commands "make install20". My shell tells me the command is not found. "bash: make: command not found" Please help. I am using SuSE professional v. 8.0 I am a complete newbie to using linux. Susie

Probably you need to install 'make' from the Development/Tools/Building package set. Also make sure you have various other development tools such as gcc and some standard libraries installed. When make runs correctly it usually tells you of any libraries you need to install. JDL -- May the source be with you.
Could you please tell me what other development tools to install? I successfully installed the make command but the install did not work correctly so I assume that I did not install all the development tools and/or libraries needed? How should I know what needs to be installed? Should I just install all of the development tools and all of the libraries? I have enough hard drive space for this but don't really want to install a bunch of stuff when I don't understand what it is. Susie

It is difficult to say what you will exactly need; but looking at the output of the configure or make run, you may deduce what it was trying to find: a library, a program... Then you start up yast, go to install software, search, and there try to find the file or package that is missing. If it finds none, be sure to mark "ignore case" and "search descriptions". Alternatively, you can use "pin" to find a package. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson El 02.09.22 a las 15:44, Susie escribió:

It's usually a good idea to have automake and autoconf installed. Also flex and bison, though I don't know whether they are needed for your package.

It won't do much harm except fill disk space with things you don't need. Look for a README file that tells you which libraries you need. If there isn't one, then make often checks for libraries before trying to compile. Look for an explanation for the failure a little above where make stopped.
