RE: [SLE] Moving from Redhat and finding 8.2

Two items.....
We'll be converting a site from Redhat to Suse in the next week or two - [...]
Is there any way to obtain Suse 8.2 on CD - the site's bandwidth is limited, and will not allow a FTP install.
I just did a quick search using google on "SuSE 8.2" it linked me to: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B00008XYHH/all/r... where it showd several "new" and "used" copies for sale. I would get new if I were you.. SuSE's support is limited, but I would still register it. Watch out for knockoff's better to get new boxed set as produced by SuSE. Don't forget to "get security patches" ASAP. http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/download/updates/82_i386.html Hope this hels, Gar __________________________________________________________________ Introducing the New Netscape Internet Service. There's no support for 8.2 anymore. Support for the previous version ends, at the latest, ninety days after the release of the current version. So registering 8.2 is rather useless. Philipp

Unless policy is changed recently it will be mainted for two years after the date of release and IIRC the release date is somewhere aroun April 2003 so it should have atleast one year. Of course I reserve the right to be mistaken :-) 8.0 will not be supported soon after 9.1 comes out and approxmiately 6 months after that 8.1 will not be supported. So 8.2 has at least another year a I understand the policy -- Togan Muftuoglu | Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer | Please reply to the list; http://susefaq.sf.net | Please don't put me in TO/CC. OK, I should have been more precise :) What I meant was the free installation support and that ends ninety days after the release of the new version. Fixes for serious and/or security bugs are of cause provided for as long as you stated. Philipp

To Philipp et al: Registering ANY version of Suse is useless as the support is pretty well non-existant!! If you want help you have to go to third party sources, such as SLE.
Please don't send an extra copy as private mail. I do read the list, so
it's totally unnecessary. Seems that in spite of my belief, I once again
have to set reply-to to the list :(

I don't know how good the english spoken support is, but at least the german one is rather good, though it is limited in what is supported by the free installation support. Philipp
