I've just acquired a wireless network card, Linksys WPC54G. When I insert it in my laptop, it is detected and the popup window appears asking me if I wish to configure it. After clicking yes and entering the root password, the network configuration starts but does not detect any device. Has anyone had any luck setting up this card, or know how I can go about doing so (documentation etc.)? I am using SuSE 9.1, kernel 2.6.5-7.75-default, KDE 3.2.3. TIA Eddie
I was under the impression that the WPC54G uses the broadcom chipset, which isn't supported under linux. I also have a WPC54G and was unable to get it functioning correctly. eddie writes:

I have a WPC54G and works fine under suse 9.1. When I update suse last night the card fault because it didn't find de modules. I relink them, make a mk_initrd, and now is working again. :) El lun, 28-06-2004 a las 15:45, Blue Moose IT Support escribió:

Did you get the card/ndiswrapper to load automatically on boot? I've tried but cannot figure it out. Can you tell me how to get it to load automatically? thanks, Craig Herring

You might try the following, if you did not already do so: use YAST to edit the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file and revise/add the line: MODULES_LOADED-ON-BOOT="ndiswrapper" -- ...CH "The more they over-think the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." Scotty

As a matter of closure, I want to thank all those who chipped in with helpful advice. I got the card going using ndiswrapper. Wasn't too hard, once I figured out what I was doing. Got caught at getting dhcp to assign an ip address. After manually created an ifcfg-wlan0 that problem was solved. Finally loading on boot, was solved as mentioned above using yast. Thanks again Eddie
