The problem with this is, boot.local is boot time only initializations. I want the login messgae to contain some color text. (ie, the message you see on the console or when you telnet to the box) Something displays the issue.net file, I do not know if it is getty or login or something else. Red Hat does this know, I have not looked deeply at the Red Hat platform to see how they do it however.
I'm using SuSE since 5.3. Once upon a time I found a program that displayed an ANSI color Tux image as the login. Its readme said in order for this (and similar ANSI files) to work in SuSE you have to cat ansi_coded_text file > /etc/issue.net (for telnet logons) and cat ansi_coded_text file > /etc/issue (for local logins) In this case the existing issue.* is replaced by the ANSI. Or do cat ansi_coded_text file >> /etc/issue.net (for telnet logons) and cat ansi_coded_text file >> /etc/issue (for local logins). In this case the ANSI is appended from the second line. Try this and please write back. Koray

Hi all,
I would like to be able to browse/mount the Samba/Win98 shares on my LAN from my SuSe 6.4 workstation ..... where can I get documentation regarding this ? Preferably I'd like to be able to do this from the console.... I have tried utils like LinNeighborhood, but didn't like them much ..........
Thanks in advance

I can tell you how I just figured out how to do this in SuSE 7.0. The command I used is: mount -t smbfs -o username=your_name,password=your_password //samba_server_name/share_name /mount/point I could then access the /mount/point like any other directory! -- Steve Laird President (but always learning) Tri-Cities Linux User Group http://www.3clug.org

Hmm, cool , on 6.4 I kept getting errors the the kernal did not suport or have the smbfs suported or compiled in, and therefore used smbmount and smbclient instead
mount -t smbfs -o username=your_name,password=your_password //samba_server_name/share_name /mount/point
I could then access the /mount/point like any other directory!

I'm using the stock suse kernel right now, and Samba works Ok. One if the install messages sent to root mentioned the mount -t smbfs, and I've never looked back. 2.0.6 wasn't the best, and I keep 2.0.7 around if I really mess something up.
mount -t smbfs -o username=your_name,password=your_password //samba_server_name/share_name /mount/point

Anurag, To clarify, this worked with SuSE 6.4? Which version of Samba are you using? I think it requires at least 2.0.6... -- Steve Laird President (but always learning) Tri-Cities Linux User Group http://www.3clug.org

Oops, I forgot. You'll find that you must be root to do this... -- Steve Laird President (but always learning) Tri-Cities Linux User Group http://www.3clug.org
