Virus Scan of Mail
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Would someone please help me to setup virus scan of mail. I am using 8.0Pro with Mozilla1.4a to read and send mail. I connect to my ISP via dial-up modem. I currently have f-prot loaded which I use to scan my files with. With windoze it was easy to get any number of programs to scan mail but I still have not figured this out with linux, in fact I am not sure how my mail is fetched from ISP. There are no email viruses that affect linux clients. Linux clients aren't scriptable the way Outlook is, so as long as you don't blindly run applications you get in the mail, you're safe. I would guess you download your mail from your ISP with mozilla, you must have set up your account info at some point. There are email virus scanners for linux, but the primary purpose of those are for mail servers that serve windows clients. You would set up the virus scanning in the server. Check the amavis docs (for example) to see how

One good way is to use fetchmail, in concert with procmail and use spamassassin to check for spam. But doing all of the above is a lot more complex than just using Moz to go fetch your mail from your ISP. Moz is using the POP3 portocol to bring the email to your machine. Fetchmail will also do that and then hand the mail over to procmail which will run it through spamassassin and then deliver it.. But you would have to do some 'larning to get to that point. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Ignore the below.... thought you wanted to deal with spam. Not virus's.

I may be naive about this, but I'd rather err on the side of safety -- I bought a copy of Vexira for Linux: http://www.centralcommand.com/index.html -- Sincerely, Neil Blanchard mailto:neil.blanchard@verizon.net
