[opensuse] Intel gfx card issues with openSUSE 11.1
Hi :)
Sorry for cross-posting, but not sure whether one or the other list should be
e-mailed. Seems to me that both are eligeble 0;)
Just installed openSUSE 11.1 on my Asus R2Hv and I'm having issues with my gfx
card (see lspci below). If I use the "i810" driver I get this error:
[...]
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 00@00:02:0
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
But if I use the "intel" driver I get this other error:
Couldn't find PLL settings for mode!
I've been looking through bugzilla and found that this issue was detected
during the Beta phase and has been closed as "fixed":
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=432422
Seems xorg/X11 Intel gfx drivers need a patch and seems it's been applied
(bugzilla says so), but doesn't seem to work for me :(
I've tried adding these lines to xorg.conf, but still doesn't work:
BusID "0:2:0"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
Also tried using the VESA driver, no go.
¿Any ideas, hints, tips, ...?
BTW, lspci -nnvv gives me this:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [Class 0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile

Hi Rafa, I was about to install 11.1 on my R2Hv, but then saw your message and stopped. I downloaded a LiveCD and tried that, and experienced the same 'intel' error as you report. Have you had any luck in getting the system up and running? Allen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Likely few will get a live 11.1 CD to work on Intel. A fix checkin soon for https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463288 should make it easier to get up a normal install without manual intervention to xorg.conf. Same here. i810 btw is only a link to the intel driver (was a separate driver in 11.0)
But if I use the "intel" driver I get this other error:
For me (Chipset 852GM/855GM) the intel driver works - sort of. It's flickering a lot on startup (not that critical), but switching screen resolution with xrandr doesn't work at all - it's leaving me with a blank screen and all I can do is CTRL-ALT-Backspace. One of several reasons why I went back to 11.0 after trying an upgrade last weekend.
