Hi folx,
Can someone give me a pointer please. This is SuSE 7.1.
I want to be able to send mail as a result of something that happens
within a program. The body of the mail is stored within a file. The mail
server is on another machine on the network.
I tried using elm with the command:
elm -s "subject" to_address

Hi folx,
Can someone give me a pointer please. This is SuSE 7.1.
I want to be able to send mail as a result of something that happens within a program. The body of the mail is stored within a file. The mail server is on another machine on the network.
I tried using elm with the command:
elm -s "subject" to_address
The created an e-mail with the correct details for to_address, the subject and the body, but it set the from_address to alan@YAST_ASK instead of the correct machine name. The mail server, which it found with no problem, quite correctly rejected this as 'Sender Domain does not exist'.
So...
What I need is some info on how to either set the sender properly, or an alternative way of sending out the mail.
Any advice gratefully accepted.

OK - I finally solved this one on my own. The solution is as follows: Go into YAST, select 'System Administration', then 'Change Configuration File' Scroll down to a variable called 'FROM_HEADER' and set it to the full name of your machine. alan -- http://www.ibgames.net/alan Registered Linux user #6822 http://counter.li.org Winding Down - Weekly Tech Newsletter - subscribe at http://www.ibgames.net/alan/winding/mailing.html

I see you solved your problem, but anyway, if you want a powerfull comandline mail program, try "nail". It is not included on the distro, you have to download and compile it. The home page is "http://omnibus.ruf.uni-freiburg.de/~gritter/" NAME nail - send and receive MIME conformant mail SYNOPSIS nail [-BFintv~] [-s subject] [-a attachment ] [-c cc-addr] [-b bcc-addr] [-r from-addr] [-h hops] to-addr . . . nail [-BeHiInNv~] [-T name] -f [name] nail [-BeinNv~] [-u user] You see there are options for setting the "from" and "to" addresses directly, and also for attaching files :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
