As root make sure you have gstreamer-plugins-good,gstreamer-plugins-base, as well as gstreamer-fluendo-mp3. Without these packages, Amarok will not play an .mp3 file (save for gstreamer-plugins-libav which would work in place of gstreamer-fluendo-mp3).
zypper se -i -t package gstreamer | egrep -i 'fluendo|good|base'
i | gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 | GStreamer plug-in from Fluendo for MP3 support | package i | gstreamer-plugins-base | GStreamer Streaming-Media Framework Plug-Ins | package i | gstreamer-plugins-good | GStreamer Streaming-Media Framework Plug-Ins | package
If you don't have gstreamer-fluendo-mp3, then you will need to install it on the command line with zypper or from YaST2. In my experience, when Amarok doesn't play any mp3's, it's normally down to a missing gstreamer package missing. BTW, did you check all the simple stuff, like seeing if the Volume stream for Amarok is all the way down or muted, logging out/in of KDE after starting with fresh config files?

"Pullin" has no bearing on having Amarok play a file, from the description: "The installation of this package triggers online update of gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3 and gstreamer-fluendo-mp3." I don't have pullin installed, not on Leap or TW and don't have problems with Amarok not playing mp3s. If it triggered an update, then maybe your packages were out of date. But the pullin package itself is just a helper script, that's it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I understand fluendo_pullin matters if you have the /official/ fluendo packages, but does not matter if you have the alternative packman packages. Most importantly, you should not have a mix of origins for fluendo and gstreamer packages. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Regardless, you need the fluendo or libav package for mp3 playback that I cited in my previous email in this thread if you want to play back .mp3'.s, as any of the gstreamer packages in the OSS repo will not handle MP3's, as .mp3 is a restricted format based on its current license. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

mp3 is one of the few restricted formats that is supported free by fluendo. For the rest of restricted formats (many), you either pay to get support, or download the alternatives from packman. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluendo https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GStreamer https://en.opensuse.org/GStreamer «It contains open source codecs, but fully licensed codec packs can be purchased from the main sponsor, Fluendo, and installed as rpms.» -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. I saw this thread and couldn't understand why gst-fluendo-mp3 wasn't found in the non-oss repository but when I had a look online I found that the non-free url has been changed at least for leap and tumbleweed.
