[opensuse] nscd problem when off line
Hi all! Have a LAN setup with openldap authentication for some PC running Opensuse11.0. The setup works real nice, but nscd won't allow log ons to my laptop-PC when it's off-line. Trying to switch a use in the console with "su - user-name" terminates after some minutes with a message "Permission on the password database may be to restrictive" and reject the password. All nscd-settings are unmodified from installation with cash-time set to approx. 60 minits. I did have this working for some 10.x versions some time ago, but now I'm really struck. Any suggestions how to fix this? /Anders D. -- ----------------------------------------- OpenSuse 11.0 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Off-line? You mean when the nscd dies? There is a bugzilla about this; for the moment you have to restart the daemon every time it dies with a watchdog script, no solution yet. Yes you did ;-) With nscd running you can disconnect your laptop from the network and still login with LDAP authentication. Nscd is suposed to cache need info for this purpose (but aperently don't or is broken) I't works just like a Windo$-PC diskonected from the LAN (chached info from AD)... /Anders D. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah! Well, I think that's intentional. It caches current information, and keeps tracks of the changes. Thus, if the ldap server is not available, there is no info, and the nscd will give the same info if there were no daemon. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
