[opensuse] 11.1 KDE3 depends on KDE4 ?
Hi, I'm trying to update my laptop with 11.0 to 11.1. I honestly tried KDE4 on 11.0 and decided it's not for me. So I removed it from 11.0 and made kde4_base "taboo", since from time to time YaST suggested installing it. During update package manager complained it can't resolve some dependencies and manual intervention is needed. Of course it was KDE4. Now, I said "do not install KDE4" and tried to manually select kde3-base pattern. To my surprise package manager claims that kde3-base depends on kde4-base. From my understanding, certain parts of both conflict, so they decided to just use the KDE4 versions for both. I think ksysguard is one of them. To get a true KDE3 experience, you'd have to go back to 10.3, since 11.0 is the same way. If you remove all of the qt4 and kde4 parts from 11.0, you get problems with missing stuff. I think that was how I broke the kopensuse-updater on my machine. Had to do a re-install to fix it.
I haven't had time to look at 11.1 yet, but hopefully I will soon. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On top of that: krdc, games, etc are also KDE 4 based and have been for quite a while. If they kept all KDE3 / 4 packages on the DVD it wouldn't fit. -- Ben Kevan I say never be complete. Actually, with 11.0, the KDE4 games were selected by default for a KDE3 install. However, you could safely remove them and install the KDE3 games with no problems. Not sure about 11.1 tho. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I was not using kopensuse-updater, but as I wrote I had "taboo" on kde4-base in 11.0 and had no problem with KDE3 except that I had to re-install some stuff manually. E.g. krdm was taken from kde4. Do not remember if there were more... I would understand games and other "toys" (though I did not like KDE4 games style, at least card games, on 11.0 andI could not configure kscd from KDE4 to read freecddb). But kde3base? -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
