Hi, Apparently, there is a limit in the mouse cable length: a 1.8 m extension cable works but a 10 m one does not. Is there a workaround? Configuration: Logitech PS2 mouse, SuperMicro P4DCE motherboard. Two mice and two 10 m cables tested. Both the keyboard and monitor work OK with 10 m extension cables. In my case, I'll probably move the furniture and use the 1.8 m extension cable but for an other computer I may need a 20 m extension cable. I don't think it's OS specific (SuSE 8.1 is installed there) but I haven't tested it. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se

Is your mouse an optical ? If so, chances are it will indeed not work, wheel mice seem to have problems as well (middle button clcik does not get passed through, left and right work fine). Best solution (IMO) is to buy a cordless mouse , or an amplifier (black box and others sell those extension boxes, which allow you to have something like a 100m mouse cable). Still Im curious why you would need a 20m mouse cable ..

No, it's a cheap 3 button mouse with a cord.

I'll check it.

To reduce noise in a small lab we are moving 4 computers to a computer room. Two Sun workstations have already been moved and work OK. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se

In which case I recommend looking into a KVM switch, so that you can drive all 4 from a single monitor/keyboard/mouse (keyboard/video/mouse officially). And then get a KVM switch that has a built in amplifier. (And you might need to get 2 of those sun ps/2->sun keyboard converters). I have a similar setup (except it's all sitting under my desk, not 20 m away, which means I always have nice warm feet ;) ) and it works like a charm.
