Hi List I am planning to build up a shell service for me and for some friends of mine, even if everyone is trusted (I know them all personally) I am interested in logging what they do on my system. I am a newbie in this field, so where should I start? I want to log all their connections with the outer internet and even what they type in their shell. I am planning to put the .history file append only. There is a chance to brake anything? Praise
you could recompile bash to support logging to a different file than ~/.bash_history and log all commands to common .history file and make it append only. there are also some other programs you can use to log certain users. a friend was talking about it the other day but i cant remember off hand what it was.
