Re: [SLE] How to setup local IMAP server, and which one ? (with eventual HTTP-feature ?)
Hi James, I think that my problem was that in the configuration i've done with Yast, i'dd choosen the option 'deliver to Cyrus IMAP' or something like that. From your explanation, i think i need to take the option 'LOCAL', and then point my email-client to localhost, with userid & password of my linux-box. Am i correct in this ? Perhaps i'm searching a solution that's too difficult, and it's easy :-) How do i configure the sending of mail then ? Does this point also to localhost ? How did you do that ? Do my sent emails come into a folder in IMAP also then ? Kind regards & thanks in advance ! Franky.

The service is running, i can see it with your command.
Again, there's no configuration. If you're running the same imap as me (imap-2002d-53) it automatically picks up the mail from the user's mail on that computer. What I did, to keep things simple, is create a user with the same ID as my e-mail account and used fetchmail to bring the mail down from my isp.
Try setting up an e-mail client, to use the imap server. Then, using the mail command, send a message to that user. The e-mail client should be able to see that message. Then set up fetchmail, to get your mail.

That's correct, point the e-mail client to the username on localhost or computer name. You'll also have to use SSL. As for sending, there's no difference, from using a pop server. You just configure the smtp server as before, using the info provided by the ISP. However, one thing you may want to do, is to save sent messages in a folder on the imap server.
Hi James, When i configure kmail to my localhost, i'm getting following message 'Unable to login. Probabely the password is wrong. The server replied: LOGIN failed' I'm using the same userid & password as the one i'm logged-on with at my workstation. Heeeeeeeeeeelp ? On Thursday 02 December 2004 15:34, James Knott wrote:

Did you select ssl connection (port 993) ?
Hi James, Yes, I selected in kmail : - logon = userid for login on system - password = the same as userid for login on system - host = localhost - port = 993 - use SSLlfor secure mail download (but when i use the 'check what the server supports, it puts this to GLS + clear text & port 143) - Clear text as authentification method On Thursday 02 December 2004 21:27, James Knott wrote:

I just selected imap & ssl, (port 993). While it works with Kmail, I normally use it with Mozilla.

Perhaps as you are logged in and trying to access an imap store you have permissions to on another machine, perhaps you don't need to identify yourself again ie why log on twice when perhaps once will do. Just leave the username and password field blank and fill in
