Has anyone else had this problem with the new KDE 2.2, It wasn't a problem in the previous KDE2 beta. Any suggestions? I did the sound card over in yast and did a test with the new config it played the demo sound in yast. But in KDE 2.2 no sound Going into user account I get this message, Sound Server informational message: Error while initializing the sound sever: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device) The sound server will continue, using null output device In my xconsole when booting into KDE it shows Aug 15 11:41:12 linux insmod: insmod: a module named snd-pcm-plugin already exists Aug 15 11:41:12 linux insmod: insmod: insmod sound-service-0-3 failed It looks like snd-pcm might be the problem, how to fix it I have no clue. Does sound work, if you do a "killall artsd && artswrapper" ? I get this same problem, but the issue is taken care of by going into the KDE control console, clicking on Sound, and restarting the Arts Server. Once this is done, everything works fine. However, in order to play Quake III, I have to restart KDE 2.2 with the Arts Server disabled. If I leave the Arts server disabled, I still have sound using XMMS, and the notifications that have sounds work. -ronc On Wednesday 15 August 2001 12:17 pm, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

I get the above error, but my sound does work. Sincerely, Bruce Harding Manager: Computer Books For Less Manager of Procurements: Computer Supply House 105 O'Connor Street Ottawa ON K1P 5M8 Canada Phone: 613-233-7418 Fax: 613-233-6823 http://www.computerbooksforless.com
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device) You get this error because artsd is using /dev/dsp. Either disable artsd (not good) or go to preferences -> sound server/system and enable full-duplex operation. -----Original Message----- From: Lenz Grimmer [mailto:grimmer@suse.de] Sent: Thursday, 16 August 2001 2:17 AM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: Re: [SLE] Sound Sever error KDE2.2 On Wed, 15 Aug 2001, John Murphy wrote:
