[opensuse] Login just cycles
I upgraded an 11.2 x64 with the online updates. this required a reboot. After rebooting I could no longer login, either as root or any user. No error it just cycles back to the login screen. What steps are needed to remedy this...? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks.
This seems to be Xorg problem. I removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf to make it start. You can also try to start system with nomodest parameter. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

GUI Login ? Then that looks like X11 not starting any more. Use a text login ( either by booting into runlevel 3 or by switching to it with CTRL-ALT-F1) and check the xorg logfiles ( in /var/log) for errors. If the text login is failing check if there is no full partition -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If your desktop environment does not start it could also be that some partition, i.e. either / or the one with /home on it is full. Sven -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Luckily I was able to get in as root and look at the logs. if you can get access or a live DVD do a " df -h " -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
