Hi All, snuffling Hellene here, with a blocked dose.... So much for having a cold. I'll bite. Everyone knows the world's best browser is clearly Konqueror. Konqi is faster, more stable, more extensible, and more integrated than Mozilla. It's also free of NPL code, using only 100% GPL'ed BSD licensed, or LGPL'ed open source code. Just go download KDE 2.1.1/2, and enjoy the best browser experience this side of Redmond. ;-) -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Tim, I just wonder if Konqi prints properly for you? In my experience, Konqi just cuts parts of the page that don't fit instead of scaling it. Mozilla scales the pages to fit the paper size. -Kastus

Accept for sites that use the javascript: protocol, I haven't had any scripting problems with Konqi. And, I'd gladly have a few to use a browser that doesn't mysteriously crash and takes 20-30 sec. to load... :-( I'd recommend sending a bug report via bugs.kde.org reporting any problems you have so that they can be fixed. -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Can't say that I've tried enough printing with Konqi to say. I was forced to use Netscape for printing up until recently do to some kind of problem with QT's printing system (I have no trouble printing in KDE 2.1.1). If this is the case, I'd definately report it using bugs.kde.org so that it can be resolved in KDE 2.2 (coming in July!). The main thing I want/need though is a browser that shows pages in a similar fashion to Internet Explorer - and Konqi fits the "Bill." <g> -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Other problem of Konqi, a piece of software should inform you of the things
that is doing, in most of the cases that doesnt happen with Konqi, lets say
you have a link and you click on it, in a browser 2 things must happen (at
least):
1) The pointer of the mouse should shnge to hourglass or any other icon that
tells you that is "doing something" (the standard is that the mouse pointer
changes and the browser logo animation starts)
2)on the status bar of the browser it should tell yuo some protocol
information, "contacting web site", the resolved IP address, "getting
items", "downloading page at 4KB/ps", etc.
The most important is the second one, because the first one just only tells
you that is ding something, but lets say that you DNS is down, you only will
find out that just getting the info of the status bar, because you will see
the domain is not resolved to its IP address.
I think those are very important features for a web browser, and Mozilla and
Opera supports them
Just my opinion

I deleted the .mozilla directory and let it recreate it..and it still dies..so I downgraded back to 0.8 which is the last version that seems to work. Seems they are trading speed for stablity lately. If 1.0 isn't anymore stable I may go to Konqueror full time. It's been YEARS that they have been writing Mozilla and it's still doesn't hold a candle to IE or Konqueror .. -- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

<snip> Dunno why it crashed out. Odd. I am finding my install, stable as, bar my previous posting. IE is horrid, cause it is Borg Bloat. Konq lacks the functionality of a non-beta browser things. Mozie & Netscape 6.x (despite what AOL say), are beta. Oh, & they are the best too! ;-) *BFN* Greek Geek :-) Adding features does not necessarily increase functionality -- it just makes the manuals thicker.
Hi Greek Geek,
IE is horrid, cause it is Borg Bloat.
Hey, that's my favorite browser you are picking on there! ;-) Seriously, if I could get a copy of IE for Linux... I would (although I think Konqi will soon pass IE in every way possible).

Konqi is great but it still struggles with a few websites. IE is easily the best browser there is, the bloat factor is an exageration it's not really any bigger than all the rest. On Tuesday 08 May 2001 21:02, Timothy R.Butler wrote:

1) The pointer of the mouse should shnge to hourglass or any other icon that tells you that is "doing something" (the standard is that the mouse pointer changes and the browser logo animation starts)
It has a spinning gear logo.
2)on the status bar of the browser it should tell yuo some protocol information, "contacting web site", the resolved IP address, "getting items", "downloading page at 4KB/ps", etc.
It does all of these things (Contacting such and such, Downloading at 4KB/ps, Loading Complete, et. al.).
The most important is the second one, because the first one just only tells you that is ding something, but lets say that you DNS is down, you only will find out that just getting the info of the status bar, because you will see the domain is not resolved to its IP address.
It may say something about DNS, I really can't tell, my connection is to fast (I'm really sad about that one ;-)).

So does Konqi (using 2.1.1 with KDELIBS 2.1.2 right now). -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. Actually, this isn't quite true. I've been having discussions with David Faure about Konqueror's lack of status information. Basically, Konqueror embeds KHTML, and gets its info from there. KHTML stops sending info once the page has loaded, so any images that are still being loaded after the HTML page is done loading load without status info. Hopefully he can get that fixed.

<snip> Well of course you have a point or two therein! The license thing does not "bug" me in this case.... I must add, that in customizing the "Personal Toolbar Folder," in "Manage Bookmarks," is very crash like. BUT, aside from that, it is stable as, so far.... It even displays AMDzone, without the crash & burn thing! *BFN* Greek Geek :-) "You who hate the Jews so, why did you adopt their religion?" -- Friedrich Nietzsche, addressing anti-semitic Christians
