[opensuse] Using wireless modem with KNetworkManager
Is anyone able to connect to Internet using a wireless modem through KNetworkManager in openSUSE 11.3 ? For the last two releases the only method I use is with wvdial. Please share your experience. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think KNetworkManager sort of drops the ball on that one. It provides a configuration menu, but then seems not to do anything with the information. There are no error messages in it's log. So it is hard to tell what it is unhappy with. Of course, perhaps it is just not implemented yet. I surely would like to know if it is expected that it should be working, or if support is known to be lacking. How are wou using wvdial with this device? Does any of the configuration from kNetworkManager get used? Or are you configuring wvdial by hand? -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. I agree that KNM's wireless broadband support could be better. There is however no way for KNM or any other NM client to provide logging information directly. Your only information source is /var/log/NetworkManager. I am working with NetworkManager to at least get a way for the client to be notified if NM has deemed that a configuration entered by the user is invalid. FWIW at the openSUSE 11.3 launch event I helped a user configure his connection and it worked first time (phew!) - the important things to get right are the number and the network's APN. We'll be providing a wizard to pre-fill this data for many networks in future.
