Because plasma is only one of the new frameworks in KDE 4.
yes, I understand this. But if this had been named by any name other than KDE, nobody would have expected much (name it Lancelot if you want). It's a completely new window manager, as different from kde3 than kde3 from Gnome...
only; 4.1 was for early adopters.) KDE 4.2 is the first one that really feels like KDE.
frankly I don't see any difference from kde4.0 to kde 4.2. No better. I still can't have the plasmoids fitted where I need them - I even tried nv and nvidia with little difference, I read all (not much) the doc in the kde wiki and I'm still lost...
What version of kdebase4-workspace do you have?
rpm -q kdebase4-workspace kdebase4-workspace-4.2.0-183.3
I'm not entirely sold on Dolphin. I still use Konq for my file management, but that just because I'm used to it.
I use many usb devices and the new "place" dolphin column is really a good thing - kde4 have problems, but may... in some month be a killer...
A lot of the "rewrite" was required for the port to Qt4 and/or Windows. It would have been done independent of any of the pillars.
it should have been much more modular (slowly moving from kde3) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-eic8MSSfM http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412160445 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's not a completely different window manager. It's still the kwin code, just updated. It still has all the kwin features that I love (snapping, "Special Window Settings...", "Special Application Settings..."), plus a few nice desktop effects (transparency, live previews, wobbly). Kicker has been removed, subsumed by the kdesktop replacement. That is quite different, but feature parity has been achieved in 4.2. (Not all the kicker applets have plasma versions, but that's not a problem with plasma itself.)

My plasmoids seem to move and resize properly, at least the ones I've tried. Are you having trouble with one in particular or just as a general rule? Could you be a bit more specific in how you are expecting vs. what you are experiencing?
- I even tried nv and nvidia with little difference,
I'm running the "intel" driver on openSUSE and the "nvidia" driver on Debian. Unfortunately, the "nvidia" driver has not been performing as it should for many months now. I don't notice large performance differences between the two cards, but both are acceptable.

I haven't read any. :P Bad me.
What version of kdebase4-workspace do you have?
rpm -q kdebase4-workspace kdebase4-workspace-4.2.0-183.3
Same version here. Can you sent me a screenshot with the blurriness? Also, in System Settings, General tab, Desktop, Desktop Effects component, All Effects tab, what effects do you have enabled?

That was (and still is) not possible. Either it works against Qt3 or it works against Qt4. You can't have half of KDE running on Qt3 and half on Qt4. You can have half of KDE running on windows on some not, and that is the current state. -- Boyd Stephen Smith Jr. ,= ,-_-. =. bss@iguanasuicide.net ((_/)o o(\_)) ICQ: 514984 YM/AIM: DaTwinkDaddy `-'(. .)`-' http://iguanasuicide.net/ \_/

on "folder view", I can set the plasmoid desktops (folder view? it's irritating to have the same name for two different things - and In use the french version, so I can only guess the english name) where I want, But I already have the destop folder as background :-??, but if I switch to "desktop view", all the plasmoids go to the left top corner and if I move them go back as soon as I clic the background (just a comment: I make you to: of this mail because I don't think the list wil accept attachements) the first attachement shows the folder viewe and the second the result as soon as I clic on desktop view and "accept".

I don't care about performances. right now I moved to the nv driver and the task bar seems better (not easy to take a snapshot of this, may be have to try my Nokia N95 :-)

none

I have kde3 *and* kde4 apps running together (but each with the proper bugs...) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-eic8MSSfM http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1412160445
