Also check if you have a hub or a full duplex switch. Even a cheap switch will not give you full bandwidth.

I don't think it can be hardware. i.e. Samba is fast. NFS is slow. Same exact equipment. I complained to one of our bench techs and he ran iometer against a SuSE 8.2 box. He ran iometer on RH boxes I think, definately not Macs. He found Samba to be 10x faster than NFS. My tests are more real world, but I definately see Samba is much faster. Greg -- Greg Freemyer
