[opensuse] multimedia, dificulty playing of VOB files
Trying to play a serie of DVD disks full of VOB and BUP and Ifo files. Tried it with kaffeine and VLC assuming that at least one of these players would show me the movie. After unsuccesful trials I googled and found it is a known problem since several years. No solutions found on google worked for me. I started ripping one of the DVD's with K3b but after 2,5 hour ripping it stopped working at 46% of the first run. Cannot remember the reason. The mail K3b would send me with the error, I am not able to find :(. Somebody has a workable solution or a player which has no such problems? In total I have 6 DVD's which I want to view. -- Linux User 183145 using KDE4 and LXDE on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 12.3 (i586) Kernel: 3.10.10-25.g8038aea-default KDE Development Platform: 4.11.00 13:52pm up 3:54, 3 users, load average: 1.47, 1.36, 1.87 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

With which openSUSE?

With Packman repo enabled, I'm sometimes able to play things with SMPlayer that VLC will not play. I don't even install Kaffeine. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. Thanks Felix, that did the trick. Also downloaded smplayer2 which did not work. At the same time I deleted Kaffeine. No use for it whatever. like any video dvd. Did you build yourself these dvd's or are these commercial ones? in the latter case, go to YaST, repositories, community, and add packman and libdvdcss. Give to packman a "priority" number smaller than the other repos open a root xterm and do "zypper up"
I started ripping one of the DVD's with K3b

I forgot to say you have to install libdvd with yast, of course, it's the decoder for comercial dvd's jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
You might also need to set the option in yast to allow vendor changes. Otherwise it might not install from packman even with it being a higher priority (smaller number).
