I know what you mean...
I use StarOffice for this, mainly because I have a Palmpilot from
work, and StarOffice can synchronize with it.
I would suggest this,
install StarOffice, and you'll have a default address book.
Don't start using it yet...
Set up MySQL and create a database as specified in the StarOffice help
(under address book).
Get the myJDBC driver from the MySQL page and set it up (I can send
the location if you like)
Now you can modify the address book in StarOffice to use the MySQL
database as backend instead of the default dBase file... and your data
is also accessible for other apps if you need it!
