Try changing the installationmedium to that directory you downloaded to and do it not with YOU but just with update.
hmm. I appreciate the speed of the reply and gave it a shot. I used "change source of installation" selected hard drive and entered the full path to the updates, when i hit "next" it comes up with a dialog box "No installation data found on medium." There is no "CD1" directory on my local hard drive, it is a mirror of the update tree, ie: .../ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/8.0/ /a1 /ap1 . . . Is there an easy way to make this work or do I have to glom all the updates under one directory named cd1?

Yep, just do "apt-get install <pkg>" or "apt-get upgrade" e.g. The 1st command to install a single package including its dependencies and the 2nd to upgrade all the installed packages. The command "apt-get -dy install <pkg>" will only donwload the packages. To get YOU to work, when you use the option "Expert" and select "Harddrive" fill it with the path to your local mirror, but the trick is to specify the path up to the "i386" directory. In your case: .../ftp.suse.com/pub/suse I do this all the time with a local mirror of my own. Now what would be usefull is for YOU to remember this settings the next time ... -- Rafael
