SuSE-10.0 - Mencoder - unable to open /dev/dsp permission denied
Integrated soundcard on Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 OpenSuS10.0 When trying to encode TV signal with Mencoder I have: unable to open /dev/dsp permission denied. Permission on /dev/dsp are now 660. Problem is thus different. What could be the the problem. The KDE control center seems buggy. Should I try alsaconf? -- Alain Barthélemy cassandre@bartydeux.be http://www.bartydeux.be Linux User #315631

Do you have more than one user logged in? For example, both myself and my girlfriend have KDE sessions open, and /dev/dsp is owned by me (probably because i logged in before she did): stephan@owl:~> groups users dialout video stephan@owl:~> l /dev/dsp crw-rw----+ 1 stephan audio 14, 3 2006-08-14 13:59 /dev/dsp stephan@owl:~> su - simone Password: simone@owl:~> l /dev/dsp crw-rw----+ 1 stephan audio 14, 3 2006-08-14 13:59 /dev/dsp simone@owl:~> groups users dialout video Unless all logged-in users are members of the audio group, it looks like /dev/dsp will only work for the first user who logs in. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W.
