----------------------- Ksnapshot makes pretty quick work of it on my end. Patrick --- KMail v1.5 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...
Ksnapshot or Xgrab. I have used Ksnapshop before. It should be on your cd/dvd if it isn't already installed. pben On Tuesday 11 February 2003 09:52 pm, Vishal Khanna wrote:

But Ksnapshot takes a ver small picture. Gimp is better. Gimp is like Adobe Photoshop for linux but free. Paul Benjamin wrote:

Ok, I am willing to learn how do you use gimp to get a screen shot? I agree that gimp is a great graphic editor. On Tuesday 11 February 2003 10:22 pm, Linux Mail wrote:

I started using "xv" for all these simple things. It won't do all the fancy stuff, but it sure doesn't take much memory, it does grabs in several ways, and makes organizing lists of grabs easy. On SuSE up through 7.3 (this box) it is the helper application on my Netscape. Using xv, I can pull any graphic off any display, either by pointing to it or else by windowing it. Mostly I use fvwm2 or Gnome, KDE only sometimes. With 8.0 and 8.1 (testing box) I am trying Mozilla, and don't yet have the helper application feature working correctly.

Just use ksnapshot. It's easy to use, fast, and takes a picture of the fullsize screen. If you have 1100x800 set up as your resolution, that's exactly the same size the snapshot will be. Just because you see it as a small picture in your /home directory, does not mean it's that small. Click on it, and you'll see. John

Eh? KSnapshot will keep the dimensions of the window or desktop that you are snapping. If your desktop is 1240x768 than that will be the size of the pic that you save from KSnapshot. Why use a flamethrower to light a cigarette?

In the past, I used pixie (plus?) that came w/SuSE 8.1 -- it isn't obvious, meaning there isn't a "toolbar" item for taking screenshots, only menu items, so I suspect this one gets overlooked quite often. When you do take the picture, you're given a couple of options: 1) take a pic of the whole screen 2) take a pic of just one app if you choose #2, the cursor turns into a cross-hair allowing you to select the window you want [make sure it is already "near the top" before you try to take the pic...] There are options to "delay" the shot [in case you need to open a context menu and want to show that] as well as remove the pixie windows before taking the shot [mainly for "full-screen" mode] Unfortunately, there is a conflict between pixie and KDE 3.1 -- I didn't bother to check into it, merely resolved it be removing pixie -- I might want to ressurect it again, so if anyone does have pixie on a system w/KDE 3.1, what did you do to resolve the conflict? [or can it be ignored? I think the conflict had to do with particular icons...] -- Yet another Blog: http://osnut.homelinux.net
