Ballmer to customers: DRM will rule Corporate data protection and antipiracy locks are at the core of Microsoft's future and are the future of business, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer wrote in a Wednesday e-mail to customers. Open-source advocates worry that Microsoft's broader "Trustworthy Computing" campaign, which would involve authenticating software programs as well as documents and media files, is in part aimed at pushing software like Linux out of the market.

I'll admit I'm not the most "hardcore" trekkie, but wouldn't it make more sense to consider the marketing department to be the Ferengi and the engineering department to be the borg? As I recall, the Ferengi were all about material things and making the big "deal", while the borg were the ones adept at assimulating other culture's "technology"...
