Hi, and good bye I never really got out of this what I had hoped. I started posting in an effort to establish a reputation so I could get a job working with linux - boy did that fail. It seems anyone can get a linux related job except me. So after four years or so, I give up. It's been fun, sort of. Live long and prosper

Sorry you have not realized your expectations. You and your expertise will *greatly* missed, a loss to the suse-linux community. Best of luck as you move on. I have learned much, and been helped much, from your participation on this list. If I could, I would have hired you long ago. I had always hoped SuSE would hire you, you are good. ;-) Sorry to see you are leaving this list, but I hope you do get your job, and hope you continue to contribute to the SuSE effort. Seems longer than 4 years, I guess you must have started about the same time as I. Please know you, and your expertise, will be greatly missed. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

Don't give up yet, I was working with OS/2 for about 5 years, before I was hired to support it at IBM.

Yeah, it's all relative. A few years back I posted a single question on an MS-SQL issue (on some MS-SQL-related list), and was offered a job the next day. Not that I wanted it, nor was I qualified. /Per Jessen, Zurich -- Let your spam stop here - http://www.spamchek.com

Well, you certainly succeeded with the first part.

I hope this doesn't mean you're going to The Dark Side...

That is sad and I wonder if it's largely your location (though for some companies, the likes of Novell/SuSE location shouldn't matter), surely it's not because of lack of knowledge or capability. For depth of knowledge, you certainly are way ahead of most of the guys who are working day to day in Linux. It would be sad to lose such expertise, even temporarily as I and many others hope you'll be bouncing back somewhere on the Linux scene. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... This is sad news, Anders, I hope you reconsider, and stay! You have been one of the best on this list over the years, and you'll be missed. Good luck with your ambitions, and life. Terence

You did establish a reputation, and with your expertise, you deserve a job.
so I could get a job working with linux
Hmm, didn't know that - do the people who /should/, know this???
- boy did that fail. It seems anyone can get a linux related job except me.
It may seem so, but is it real? ;)
So after four years or so, I give up.
I hope you reconsider. Regards, Leen

Now who's gonna correct me when I leave some important detail out of my posts? :) Sorry to see you go, man. I can tell you that, out of the last 4 Linux jobs I've gotten, not a single one of them has checked out the myriad of postings I've made in the online support areas I've been associated with. It probably doesn't make you feel any better, but there's about jack available around here in the way of jobs that aren't "mostly some other OS administration, with Linux knowledge 'a plus'" too... --Danny

Quite! Cornell Univ. in all it's stupidity terminated OVER 500 full-time employees, many of us techs. Anders, I too will be sorry to see you go. Your responses have been some of the best on the list. I've been amazed how much you know. If I had a Linux job opening, I would definately make you an offer. I suspect your strategy would have worked better if you would have worked closely with a more cross platform project as opposed to SUSE in general. Good Luck and I wish you good and happy future. Anders, You will be greatly missed. I got to the point that when I searched the list archives for an answer to a problem I searched for your name first as I knew that if you had answered a request for help I would find the answer quicker. Good luck in your future endeavors and come on back to the list and at least lurk around a bit. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2) * PLEASE only reply to the list *

Hi, and good bye See you on the other side, good or bad.
I never really got out of this what I had hoped. I started posting in an effort to establish a reputation so I could get a job working with linux - boy did that fail. As a new subscriber to this list there is no way you failed in establishing a reputation. You are far better off than I. I am also unemployed and whilst I do not have nearly as much linux knowledge as you, I have pretty extensive Windows knowledge. Perhaps list subscribers can enquire if there are any positions available in your area. You never know what may turn up, but at least you can say you tried everything.
It seems anyone can get a linux related job except me. and me, who has been tying for 6 years!!
So after four years or so, I give up. It's been fun, sort of. Damn right its been fun. Many years ago I was heavily involved in IRC and used to spend about4-6 hrs a night on it talking to folk. I have had to give that up now for financial reasons, but I use the mailing lists similarly to chat rooms, just delayed.
Don't leave us, there is still much more you can contribute, even if it isn't as regular.

NO WAY!!! Don't go. Stay here and help once in a while. We need you here because of your vast knowledge of Linux and SUSE in particular. Thanks for all your help and training though. I need experts like you to learn from. I'm self-employed trying to get my real Linux job going on my own and just starting to succeed at it. Mainly Windows virus/spyware/malware fixing but it buys the next SUSE version. Stan - thanking you over and over and over again.

I think many have already expressed my feelings - you'll be missed. If there was one name that stood out as a provider of no-BS, good information, it was yours. Best of luck. The job market right now sucks :/ I'm stuck doing first-tier telephone support when I have enough background that I should be running a fully-loaded MS network (and could now throw a few Linux machines into the mix now, if needed, partly due to your help & everyone else here...) Take care!

Rats. Just when I had added you to my scorefile to make sure I didn't miss your posts. Thanks for all the help over the years. Perhaps linux-kernel, OpenOffice, etc. project lists are better suited to your (formerly) unspoken goal. Good code is more likely to get you noticed than "mere" expertise. Best of luck.
