Graphics Cards for 9.0, 9.1??
I'm shopping for a reasonably priced video card that renders fonts well and is reasonably fast (but not necessarily game-fast). I'd appreciate it if you would tell me what card you are using and whether you like it (or, if you don't, what you expect to replace it with). Thanks dennis tuchler

it's pretty hard to go wrong with an NVidia FX5200 - they're stupid cheap now(they've become one of the standard OEM install cards), they are pretty fast(they are actually game-fast, despite being a pariah for true hardcore gamers), and nvidia's got great drivers fully supported by SUSE. I 2nd the nvidia 5200 for an inexpensive video card that works great with suse. I have Unreal Tournament running in no time and with very nice results. Rob

I am confused. I just did some shopping on the net and discovered four companies that produce a version of the nVidia 5200: Albatron Hewlett-Packard, Jatron and MSI. Is there any substantial difference among these versions (e.g., whose do you recommend for price and service)? Thanks dennis tuchler
nVidia doesn't make the graphics card, they only make the chipset that is part of what makes them so good and compatible. doesn't matter who makes the cards, you can get driver for chipset alone from nvidia, and there is only one for all cards. they just work! My 2 cents = nVidia always and only and if your going to spend $$, get a dual-vga card. B-) On Tuesday 08 June 2004 01:35 pm, Dennis J. Tuchler wrote:

I have an nVidia TNT2 M-64. It's old, but very cheap (about $30 delivered--check www.pricewatch.com). If I had to buy one today, it would be one of the lower-priced FX ($55) or Ti ($67) models. You'll have to download the drivers directly from nVidia, but that's a small price to pay for great compatibility and hardware acceleration. Check nVidia's website to see which cards support 3D acceleration before buying. Chris Freyer

I'm not sure how easy it is to get the Ti's - but if you can I would personally avoid. They're actually faster than the FX's - but they're older, and I've had more issues on Linux with them. The FX5200 works just fine. In my experience, anyway... ATI Radeon 9200 was recommended to me by someone on this list, and it seems to work just fine in Linux and Windows. It was about US$90. --doug On Tuesday 08 June 2004 15:35, Dennis J. Tuchler wrote:
