Hello SuSE folkz, I started to use Netscape6.1 instead of Netscape4.x Every time I start Netscape6.1, it comes up in about 3-5 minutes which is painfully slow. Even Mozilla, which is derivative of Netscape, comes up in a matter of seconds. I'm pretty much sure that it is a matter of Netscape6.1 configuration. Could somebody give me a hint what should be changerd in Netscape6.1 confuguration or settings to speed it up? Thank you in advance. Alex
It's not so. Netscape 6.x is a derivative of Mozilla and particularly 6.1 is a derivative of a very old Mozilla. There's no sense to use both of them. Latest Mozilla is 0.9.6 (ftp.suse.com.... blabla.../projects/mozilla). Latest Netscape is 6.2 and it is made from Mozilla 0.9.4. In meantime some useful features are added to Mozilla - tabbed browsing, mouse gestures (as plugin) etc. ain Alex Daniloff wrote:

Yeah, but it's a pain to mouse-gesture an uprasied middle finger as a shortcut for exit. Have you try it to disable the new look from Netscape. maybe that helping. What is the configuration what you use on this moment with suse ? Best, -- John Konings | john@2fast.no-ip.com Reg.LinuxUser:199235 Using kernel 2.4.7-10 7:51pm up 8 days, 5:06, 2 users, load average: 0.08, 0.08, 0.02
If I were you I would do a custom install of 6.2 or Mozilla 0.9.6 (better choice) and just install the browser and talkback stuff. If you don't use the email/chatzilla and other such bloat..it's much faster if you don't install it. I find Mozilla 0.9.6 to be very quick without these things. And since I use Mutt and Kinktatta..I don't need the extra's. :) Cheers! -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal" -AE
Unfortunatelly, my wife is using Netscape MUA to read and write e-mails in russian and uzbek languages. So far I couldn't find MUA other than Netscape, which has support for multiple languages. If you know one, please let me know. Alex -------------------
