Request for further reading - Networking & internetworking - Long
Hi guys, I think I am now beyond the newbie stage as for as using linux on the desktop is concerned, However, I wish to move into the are of sys-/net- admin by setting up my main PC as a server to my family's windows XP machines. I have installed the following: * SuSE 8.2 Pro * Apache2 * Postfix * Cyrus-IMAP (not setup) * SaMBa (not setup) * 56K external modem * Belkin 10/100 Network card (working) * Belkin 4-Port 10/100 Router (working - setup page accessible from my main machine) The Belkin Router is also a DHCP server. Until such time as I go for broadband, I wish to do the following * Make the dhcp server on my router (on eth0) work with my internet connection (ppp0) so as not to prevent web browsing * Provide IMAP access to mail collected by fetchmail (currently using postfix to deliver to spool) * Allow windows clients to logon/share linux resources including files, print, internet connection. * I wish to share the internet connection ppp0 via the router * At a later date (when funds allow broadband) I will wish to share the internet connection on the router Can you please suggest straightforward, step-by-step documentation to achieving all of the above and more? Bear in mind, although I have been programming and working with computers for nearly 20 years, networks have always proved a nigh invisible resource (must have worked with some very good sys-/net- admins over the years :-)) Thanks for any help you can provide. Don't hesitate to request clarification I think that when this is done I'll move on to streaming audio :-) -- Sylvanus A.
