Hi Everyone, I would like to thank speciall to people who send out the 7.0 modules.conf file (which was apprx 25 K). Thank you Alan Lenton, Bruce and Helgi Örn. Just to give a brief summary why I needed that file. A couple of days ago I posted a message saying I was having kernel crashing with page memory allocations and I was as asked if I was using the altest suse 2.2.16 Suse kernel sources. Although I jump started and said yes I quickly realized that was not the case. I downloaded the latest kernel source and compiled my kernel. Bam that started the fire. The first thing I was shockked was Hauppage WinTV was not working anymore. Well I fighted to get it working with Xree86 4.01 and suddenly I loose the joy again. Thinking something went wrong with the choices of the config I repeated the process. Still nope, it was simply complaing that my SB LIve card was usiþng the IO for the TV. So swicthed from alsa to emu10k1.o no result. That was the time I asked for the modules.conf for 7.0 thinking maybe the module parameters were changed. Which in a way was true since the suse 2.2.16 kernel had so many backported parts from 2.3 and 2.4 defining the vidmem for bttv was uncessary. So Xfree86 loads bits and pieces of the bttv remaiþng is done by the kernel modules. I was going deep into ..... Suddenly I came out with the idea to get the pre-compiled Kernel and workout from there. The ending result was even worse now I had so many unresolved dependencies with the kernel modules. Finally I decided to get rid of the all precompiled kernels and removed alsa driver, dev, library km modules and re-compile them from source. To cut the story short now I got back the tv (using xawtv 3.21 kwintv didn get working) except the sound and the unfound char major 81-1. and I do have seldom scsi crashes with Umax scanner while using Xsane 0.62 with sane 1.03 (probably I have not done a recompile for them after the final kernel source download). Hope maybe some one can learn from the above (wait till your package arrives its only one day left don't be greedy and most important if is working don't upgrade it. Thanks again for those who send out the modules.conf wince it was the point I started solving the cause. -- Togan Muftuoglu toganm@turk.net 100% MS FREE Absolutely no component of Microsoft was used in the generation or posting of this e-mail.
