If I install another copy of SuSE on a spare partition (hda10) of a PC with SuSE on it (hda6) already, how do I add SuSE to lilo.conf so that I can boot it from the bootscreen? I've already tried setting the root to /dev/hda6, but that seems to founder when it can't find the relevant initrd. Thanks Kevin

This is what I have so I can boot 8.1 or 7.2 (very stable ) image = /boot/vmlinuz label = linux root = /dev/hda2 vga = normal initrd = /boot/initrd append = "hdc=ide-scsi" image = /boot/vmlinuz.shipped label = failsafe root = /dev/hda2 vga = normal initrd = /boot/initrd.shipped append = "ide=nodma apm=off acpi=off hdc=ide-scsi" optional image = /boot/vmlinuz-suse72 label = SuSE72 root = /dev/hdb3 vga = normal initrd = /boot/initrd.suse72 append = "hdc=ide-scsi" -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx

There are many ways to do this; this seems to be the easiest I find though: In the 'main' lilo file put (at the bottom): ----- other = /dev/hda3 label = windows other = /dev/hda5 label = suse2 ------ change as wanted and needed; add as many as you want. Install this one in the mbr, by running lilo, and making sure "boot = /dev/hda" (mbr) in the top of lilo.conf. Now install lilo in the root partition of each other linux install as well, making sure you set this to the root partition in the top of the lilo.conf file like: boot = /dev/hda5 Basically like this you can leave the mbr untouched afterwards, just rerun lilo in the root partition with a new kernel etc. Grub is conquering the world however...
