I don't know...that site took 15 seconds to completely load, and I'm on a slow dial-up (I only average about 35k, because of being so far out in the woods and these lines in this old house), so to me, it seemed about normal. Hum, you must have misconfigured. The page that you refer to took my Konq about 2 seconds to build. Which version of Konq are you using? Charles -- There are no threads in a.b.p.erotica, so there's no gain in using a threaded news reader. (Unknown source)

No problem with this site, but i do agree: some sites are a lot slower to load on Konqueror. One site that is particularly slow to load here is : http://www.theregister.co.uk Marcel

This is really strange. I read that site daily and it loads almost instantaneously. Charles -- "However, complexity is not always the enemy." -- Larry Wall (Open Sources, 1999 O'Reilly and Associates)

Yeah, i also read it everyday. It used to load fast before, but somewhere between the last few KDE updates it went wrong. Maybe i shouldn't have installed the packages from "supplementary"? Marcel

Don't know about the KDE 3.1.2 in the supplementary directory. I upgraded mine from: ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.1.2/SuSE before they were available on the SuSE site. YMMV. At my location it appears that the banner ad and side panel ads take forever to show up. Konqueror doesn't render the page until the ads shows up. The ads are just as slow on Mozilla but it renders the page while waiting on the ads. Mozilla is willing to do a full redraw of the page while Konqueror is not if the ads are the wrong size. The Register's search box in the upper left of the page is wider than the navigation panel below it. Mozilla and Konqueror shows it sticking out of the column until the artical's text arrives. Maybe that is part of the problem that slows Konqueror's display of the page. This is on the USA version of the site at http://www.theregister.com pben On Wednesday 04 June 2003 05:24 pm, Marcel Broekman wrote:

I have the same problem with El Reg and Konq v3.1.1, KDE 3.1.1 and SuSE 8.2. Charles, what's your Konq, KDE, SuSE versions, etc? Stan

Ah - I'm glad someone else has noticed this; I thought it was just me. Devshed (http://www.devshed.com) also takes an age for me. Something odd somewhere - if not in Konq, perhaps in the code those sites are using? Best wishes Kevin

Yep, Kevin, Something is certainly amiss somewhere with Konq. Your suggested site takes approx. 1 minute to load fully with Konq, but 35 seconds with Mozilla. Both seem longer than necessary with a broadband connection, but I suspect the site's coding to be part of the problem as well. People seem to be putting much more "junk" on their sites these days, not taking into consideration there are modem users still out there.
