Please explain in more detail about adding root with lppasswd. When I try to change the lp password in Yast it replaces my changes with what was there when I changed it. Where is the password config file for lp? Thanks, Jerome

This has been discussed on this list many times. A good source to search before asking something that has an answer is http://lists.suse.com lppasswd -g sys -a root (or any user name) will add root to allow changes to the printing system. This change was introduced during the last security updates and is a popup information window when you install cups. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)

what is mind boggling why sometimes it would work and others not without issuing lpasswd

Did you mean lpasswd (as you typed) or lppasswd (2 p's) Ken

It isn't necessary to "reply to all" which causes two copies to go to the poster. If you do not have a "reply to list" option then delete the poster's email address when replying. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)

because of this is happening more than usual, which can be caused by different reasons (surely lack of time to check the recipients' addresses, etc) I'd like to suggest to the list owner to add a "Reply-To" into the email header. This has both advantages and disadvantages, among others: * pros: the user only needs to hit the "Reply" button to reach us all * cons: you can't contact the poster personally unless his/her address appears somewhere on the email body HTH, Martin

This will not be done, forget it. For reasons, read the FAQ (and hundreds of threads on this list). However, you can use a procmail recipe and add it yourself - search for that on the archives, I posted that less than three months ago. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Hi Patrick, <OFF-TOPIC>
He said that he couldn't be bothered with reading the FAQ!
Grow up. I didn't expect such a nasty comment from you to the list based on comments I did on a *private* email. If you can't see the difference you got a problem. Furthermore, what you state is *not* what I said... or do I have to paste our emails too? Why do I post this? because you offended me and I have the right for a defense. </OFF-TOPIC> To all in the list: sorry for wasting some bandwidth ;) Martin
