Greetings, I have the ipw220 loaded with the firmware, but yast doesn't detect it. I have lo eth0 and sit0 in my configs, I have tried to configure the sit0 as the wireless but its not owrking I would have assumed that the wireless would be wlan0 like it was in 9.3. Is there something new I should know about? TIA Chadley
My ipw2200 uses eth1. Start over deleting any configuration you have related to ipw2200. Also, if it is not needed, make sure you disable the ppp daemon. Thanks, LDB Chadley Wilson wrote:

Hi, Judging by the amount of mail generated by this and similar topics, is there a case for a specific SuSE 10 wireless howto? Does anyone know enough to authoritatively write one? I managed to get my set-up working but do not have the knowledge to reliably inform others. Just a tought? F

I've been reading the issues surrounding WiFi on SuSE 10 and it seems to me that it has gone a step backwards. In SuSE 9.3 I simply opened up Yast, selected Network Devices, Network Card, selected Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter from the list and configured it. Yes I did have some issues relating to the DHCP client not reinstating the routes etc when it renews the lease or when the card comes out of power saving mode. I then installed a wireless tool pack with YOU which seemed to fix the problem. As WiFi is gaining more popularity, this is an item that needs to be solved fairly quickly as it will drive people away from SuSE 10. People coming over from Windows don't want to struggle to get things working. WiFi on Windows is one of the easiest things to setup, in Linux it is a PITA. I'm yet to find a way to easily swap between profiles like I can on my Windows XP laptop. (Yes I use Windows XP and SuSE 9.3 on a daily basis - some things are just better and easier in Windows and others are easier and much more stable in Linux. If only I could get Yahoo voice (the telecoms company in South Africa has traffic shaping on ADSL links putting Skype (and most other VOIP clients) at the bottom of the stack) on SuSE and Evolution working (keeps crashing when I try to download mail) I almost don't need the Windows machine anymore.) Hi, ,------ | > I'm yet to find a way to easily swap between profiles like I | > can on my Windows XP laptop. `------ Instal netgo, works easily and had a cli for convenience. I run 4 different profiles ( 2 wireless and 2 on cat5 ) and it handles them with no trouble. Only handles the software side though. There is a scheme tool in SuSE by I have never experimented with it, that looks as if it would do the hardware as well. Now if I could only get the wireless light to stay on ( so that I don't forget to switch it off ) F
