Hi people.... Ok I just installed the Samba server V. 2.0.5a-0 on a Suse Linux 6.0 machine and I have come across a few problems. What happens is that even with the basic configuration (access rights shared, no passwords blah blah blah) when I run /sbin/init.d/smb reload it says... shuting down samba OK starting samba Failed. Why o why o why?? I have checked the /var/log/samba.log file and I found this: [2000/08/02 15:54:00, 2] lib/interface.c:interpret_interfaces(176) Added interface ip=128.40.216.182 bcast=128.40.223.255 nmask=255.255.248.0 [2000/08/02 15:54:00, 1] smbd/files.c:file_init(216) file_init: Information only: requested 10000 open files, 246 are available. I can tell you that is uncommented on the /etc/services file. What gives? I can see the machine from the W98 clients and from another samba server but I cannot access it because it doesnt let me login it says: Password: Domain=[RHEUMATOLOGY] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.5a] tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.) no matter what password I use AAAAAAAAAAA....I am getting crazy......... please help Vas -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Come on, upgrade your SuSE distro, and/or upgrade to Samba 2.0.7 (highly stable & full w2k support) which is already available. FYI. Contains also the magnificent "Using Samba" by Robert Eckstein, David Collier-Brown, Peter Kelly, O'Reilly & Associates book which is of great help. On- line access to it (your Linux box) from Swat.

Do use _smbpasswd_ (crypt password) facility, it is very well documented. This will do. -- HTH Best regards, Eduardo Carriles [-- Better a smile than a flame --] (Long time SuSE-Linux [preferred distro] user). O'Reilly has a samba free book that's pretty good : ftp://ftp.ora.com/examples/misc/samba/sambapdf.zip Hope it helps -- Simeó Reig Barcelona(Spain) -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
