SuSE 8.0 default install, When SuSE starts installing everytime the hard drive or cdrom is read there is "interference" (lines accross screen) and it's not a hardware problem, a default install of redhat 7.3, mandrake 8.2 or any windows it's just fine. Now i've seen that in redhat the console is just normal low-res text, so I looked at vga=whatever in lilo.conf, no joy. just after the vesafb load during bootup the "interference" starts. it must be a problem with the way suse specifically has installed or is configured by the installer. (hardware btw is Asus MB onboard VGA, MAG screen, AMD 1000 cpu) anyone have any ideas ? tia andre

adding to my own cry for help ;) checked that display & ide are on diff irq's etc. checked bios = latest & default values (was working in everything other than SuSE anyway) hwinfo | less all looks healthy... output from free -m (cat /proc/meminfo) says i got 217m mem (so the 32M is already deducted...) did mem=128M in lilo.conf, (the screen card is ASUS onboard (S3 - k133) cause with it intefering with the screen when the hdd is I/O has to be something with vga memory / memory / vesafb (fbset ??) hdparm ? output from hdparm as follows :: #hadparm /dev/hda: multcount = 16 (on) I/O support = 1 (32-bit) unmaskirq = 1 (on) using_dma = 1 (on) keepsettings = 0 (off) nowerr = 0 (off) readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 8 (on) geometry = 4865/255/63, sectors = 78156288, start = 0 tia ;) andre
