Building ksynaptics on Gnome. Was: [SLE] How to disable touchpad gestures? (Suse 10.1)
----- Original Message ----
I'm running Suse 10.1 on a laptop with a touchpad. I find that the gestures (tapping etc.) are really irritating, as they get over-enthusiastic and trigger things I wasn't wanting. Previously, in 9.3 I had the gestures disabled ... Anyone know how to do this?
...Anyway, to control the touchpad functions you need to install the package "ksynaptics". ... Cheers, Carlos FL Thanks for the pointer Carlos, I think I recognize this package name now you mention it. Anyway, after some trouble with sourceforge, I downloaded this package but it doesn't build. I think the problem is that now I'm running Gnome, not KDE. I run "make configure" but then when I run "make" it says: checking for KDE... configure: error: in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail. So, check this please and use another prefix! Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to handle this one (OK, it's not that I'm unsure, I have no clue!) Any suggestions anyone? Ksynaptics is offered in the normal Suse installation. Just open Yast2/Software/Software Management and search for it. The fact that this is a KDE app shouldn't matter. At least in KDE, which I use, I can install any Gnome app from the DVD and they run in KDE just fine. I assume/hope Ksynaptics will create an entry in the Gnome menu for you to use. Carlos FL

You can get the current version from the repo at: ftp://gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/cboltz/SUSE_Linux_10.1 which works fairly well. Alternatively, you could use synclient which is part of the x-org synaptics drivers to discover your preferred settings and use them in your x11 config. Dylan

As Carlos suggested, this package comes in the standard Suse distribution, so you may want to try that one. If you're dead-set on compiling it, though... The error you're getting happens because you need the "-devel" packages for KDE. Such packages include so-called "header" files (typically named *.h or *.hpp), which are C or C++ files which tell applications (like the one you're trying to compile) how to interface with another application or library (in this case, the KDE libraries). Such files are required when a C or C++ application or library wants to use features from other libraries (again - in this case, KDE). i don't know what the KDE devel package(s) is/are called, but open up yast and search for packages with KDE in the name and you'll certainly find it/them pretty quickly. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W.
